NVIDIA GeForce Now for PC & Mac – Cound Gaming Service

NVIDIA GeForce Now for PC & Mac – Cound Gaming Service

At CES 2017, NVIDIA announced their cloud gaming service – NVIDIA GeForce Now for PC and Mac. Different from other game streaming services, GeForce Now for PC is not in subscription basis, but a server rental program.

GeForce Now for PC does not require any streaming apps to play, just run your familiar gaming apps like Steam, Origin, UPlay, and etc. , then run games on NVIDIA’s GRID servers through GeForce Now for an hourly fee. So you still can play all your owned games using the service (unlike PS NOW), especially if you don’t have a beefy gaming PC.

The cloud gaming hourly fee is not cheap, NVIDIA said that GeForce Now will charge $25 for 20 hours of play, with a free first 8 hours play. However there is a catch, the $25 rate is a GTX 1060 rig; if you want to play on a GTX 1080 rig, the free trial will be 4 hours and 10 hours for the $25 rate. NVIDIA’s Shield shares the same service name GeForce Now, with a different pricing ($7.99 per month), kinda confusing.

The cloud gaming service is a good idea, however the pricing is costly, and I don’t see this is a long term solution if you are a hardcore gamer, maybe for an occasional outdoor LAN party without bringing the heavy gaming rig, just a laptop will do the trick. Maybe suitable for casual gamers who have no plan to own a hardcore gaming rig, and spend less hours daily on gaming, play in drop-in-drop-out manner.

GeForce Now for PC and Mac will start rolling out in March in the US.
